I grew up watching the original "Honeymooners" with comedian Jackie Gleason. My Dad loved him, and would laugh uncontrollably at his comic ability to express his anger at the futility of life. But I am not here to wax poetic about how life sucks... as that is SPIKE's job, to whine and complain in his Live Journal. Today I shall review movies I haven't seen yet...
Tonight I shall see "The Honeymooners". For FREE at a sneak peek preview screening. I love FREE! It is my favorite price! I'm not saying I'm CHEAP or anything, but just don't ask to borrow money from me... or ask me to pay for dinner, or buy you drinks, either. I only date Dutch women, because I always want to go dutch.
Another old role that has been recast with a black actor is "Kojak". The original was a Polish Detective played by the famous bald headed actor, Telly Sevallis. He also did the leading role in "The King and I" as the King of Siam. Ving Rhames plays the new and improved, black Kojak. Yeah... that tough guy head L.A. gansta dude from "Pulp Fiction" that gets punked by a redneck cracker sombitch in a Valley Pawn Shop...
The classic 60's movie "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" was recently recast using the whitest of white boys, Aston Kutcher. The original starred Sidney Poitier as the romantic lead brought home for dinner by a white girl to meet the parents. It wasn't a comedy the first time around, it was a poignant drama chock-full of biting social commentary. The new version is a light-hearted romp, where Aston Kutcher goes head-to-head with the loud and domineering black girl's father, played by comedian Bernie Mac.
