*sings* Happy 2 year Mraz-iversary to me!!
Yes, it was 2 years ago today that I discovered Jason and saw him live for the 1st time... and what a great 2 years those have been.
Here's a picture I look that night (at that time, I thought it was good!):
That night Jason was the opening act for Chantal Kreviazuk. I went to see her, but I walked out a fan of him. I cut a review of the show out of our local paper the next day... here it is the picture and the little blurb about him in the review:
The concert begining with opening act Jason Mraz, a young American singer/songwriter with "star" written all over him, was a casual affair.
and later:
For his part, Mraz had the crowd whooping after four songs and jumping to their feet at the end of seven songs delivered over a 40-minute set.
Combining inventive songwriting - the songs were drawn from his solo debut Waiting For My Rocket To Come - with innovative guitar playing and expansive vocals, Mraz demonstrated why he is creating buzz south of the border.
The San Diego based singer/songwriter has attracted comparison to all kinds of hot artists, but he seems closest to John Mayer in live performance.
His loopy, trippy, bending and twisting music is a blend of folk, world and jazz all his own. And he is accomanied by a tight band led by Dejembe-style percussionist Toca Rivera.
The Center should book Mraz to a return engagement -- now. A year down the road he will be doing stadium shows. This guy is the Right Stuff.
I read that review for the first time tonight since I cut it out two years ago. Wow. So much has changed... It was weird to read the review again, but it made me so proud of him. *sniff*
