Nara and Todaiji
Sorry I haven't posted in forever. I keep getting distracted by pretty things in Japan. (I am easily distracted.) But here are (finally) some pictures of the trip to Nara I took a while back. I went with my friend Laura, plus two of her friends, Kanako and Shoko.

Then on to Todaiji. Todaiji is a huge Buddhist temple, one of the most famous in Japan. It and Nara, the area of Japan it's in, are also famous for the tons of deer that wander around. They're completely used to people at this point, though they can get a little... hostile, if they know you have deer food (which is sold all over the place) that you are not giving to them.
Laura was a little terrified of feeding the deer.
But I had a lot of fun with it. :P
Todaiji temple itself has a huge Buddah in the main building, which is quite impressive. It's also a pretty big tourist spot in Japan, for foreigners and Japanese people. The day we went there were a ton of middle schoolers there on a school trip. (We were all shoving in the building with each other, every other person holding up a cell phone to snap some pictures. :P)
Near the entrance
And heading out the other side, you can see the swarms of middle schoolers.
A terrifying statue. The clothes are supposed to be gifts to show respect for it, but they mostly make it look even more freaky looking.
We also bought fortunes. I think mine said should be cautious about beginning new relationships or something along those lines. Which I suppose means I should be wary of all those attractive, wealthy, fluent in English Japanese boys that have been clammoring for my attention recently.
You tie your fortune to this after you've read it. I think mine is the one four from the right on the middle bar.
We also did Purikuri (photobooth pictures that are everywhere in Japan, and amazingly fun.)
