Kaylee sticks her head in the kitchen after dinner. Mal's by himself. Good.

Quiet: "You want to let's go take a look at the ship?"

Mal was more playing with his bristle brushes than actually cleaning anything, so the excuse for movement is welcome even if he doesn't know where it will lead besides the Milliways garage. He nods and stands, covering the disassembled firearms with a spare cloth and wiping his hands on his pants.

It's a pretty quiet walk over. They're descending into the garage when she says, finally, "We're close to being packed up. And I guess -- "

Pause.

"If it's convenient." Painstakingly. Kaylee's got her hands in her pockets and her gaze straight ahead. "Can we see about swingin' over Praxed way? Or at least by a station? Simon's got all the information and whatnot about when he's got to be places."

Immediately and more robotic than uncomfortable, "Could be there in lil' over a week, we burned hard enough. If you need to be there sooner -- "

" -- no," she says. "He's the one with the details, like I said, but it ain't quite that soon anyhow. There ain't a need for hard burn."

Unless you just want us gone, she mentally finishes. No point in saying it aloud.

"Alright." The focus on the topic smooths out somewhat across Mal's features. They're not out the door just yet. "Just tell Simon to let me know if I'm foiling his plans."

Kaylee nods -- and reaches out to key in the passcode for the cargo bay door.

Without looking up: "What're you gonna do with her?"

It takes a few seconds to let the cargo bay door drop and Mal follows the movement with his eyes.

"Don't know." Simple and easy. "No way to send her back even if that were a choice o' mine; can't see a reason to come to our 'verse."

Kaylee nods -- she can't say she wasn't expecting that.

"Will you let me know? When you decide?"

"I wouldn't do anythin' with her without you knowing of it."

You worked on her too.

"Do you have any ideas on what should happen with her? I don't know many other space-living folk here who could use her."

She's your ship, she doesn't say.

"Maybe -- ask Henry Wellard? Or Captain Jack?"

Mal snorts at the image the latter name gives him.

"Ain't rightly sure I would trust Captain Sparrow with something that could fly over entire oceans in minutes. Might give 'im a big head."

Now -- finally -- Kaylee looks up, if only to give Mal a wry look. "Right, 'cause he didn't already have one on account of bein' a big-shot pirate and all."

"Captain Jack Sparrow, big ego? Speaking ill words you are," Mal chuckles. "But it's not a bad idea, if he could keep her fueled and hid regular."

More quietly, as she steps into the cargo bay: "He knows how to treat a lady. He'd take care of her."

"It's the best idea yet. Something where she'd be useful."

Because sitting in the Milliways garage is safe, but not useful.

"I'll talk to 'im."

Half a smile, and Kaylee slips her hands in her pockets, looking up.

"She's pretty much done, you know. It's just calibration from here out. You could fly her no problem right now."
