It's here... *cue drums* The New World Order is soon upon us...
Chirac proposes international tax to fight AIDS I'm adamantly against a world tax in any form... but to fight AIDS? Come on. The budget for Jacques' "War on AIDS" is being raised from 6 billion to 10 billion dollars (thats 7.7 billion Euros for those of you already in the New World Order). At the World Economic Forum, Chirac proposed placing a levy on airline tickets, some fuels, or financial transactions. I'm sorry, it's bad enough I have to pay taxes to my own country, but there's no way in hell I'm giving any to France. You don't need my money to stop the spread of AIDS. Just STOP HAVING SEX!
Meanwhile, at the same forum, British PM Tony Blair declared that the U.S. needed to integrate with the rest of the world. In a nutshell, he said we need to report to Europe before we do anything. Thanks Dad. He did however, call for a worldwide rally for the fight against terrorism and the spreading of freedom and democracy (with carefully chosen words). From an AP article:
[Blair] urged that the world's countries protect human rights and freedom and "when we can, seek to increase the number of people able to live in democracy."
He dismissed claims that the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq was trying to foist Western-style government on the country in this weekend's Iraqi elections.
"The notion of democracy being a 'Western idea' is a nonsense and mythology as most recently the people of Afghanistan have powerfully demonstrated," he said.
