Portland, OR in the winter is COLD. That's the only way to describe it. Don't get me wrong, the scenery is beautiful with its green, pine-covered mountains, Mt.Hood's snoy white cap -a lovely contrast to all the green and gray, and not to mention all the rosie cheecks. The PC, feminist-friendly atmosphere of the town just makes me feel like there is some hope for America....But let me just say that I'd take our smouldering hot summers over their frost bite winters anyday. Its my second day back home and my shoulders are killing me because everytime I even thought about walking outside in the Portland air my upper body tensed up in a huddle-like crunch preparing for the cold blast. I realize its -10 some places in the US, but im from the desert and anything that is less than 50 degress is parka worthy for me. I suppose the only thing that brings me back time again is the simple fact its the one place I can find cute nieces and good beer on tap.
