Master Fic List

May 10, 2021 00:06

Welcome to my original fiction archive! Before you dig in, I have a few requests for how I'd like us to interact.
  • Nearly all of my fiction involves gay male relationships. I write gay action heroes, because it's what I always wanted to read. If that's what you want to read too, you're going to like it here. If you're looking for fluffy romance or gooey pwp's... well, you should learn to like action instead, because it's totally better. :D
  • A lot of what I do is fairly gritty. You'll find my warning system explained here. You are responsible for your reading choices. If you read something that upsets you because you didn't look at the warnings, don't come complaining to me.
  • The warning icons, and many of the story icons, were drawn by Sarah Cloutier. She says you can take and use them, but be sure to give her proper credit.
  • You can comment wherever you like, but I'm most likely to see and respond to comments in the story's contents post.
  • Being prodded for updates is really demotivating for me. I don't update on a schedule, but the frequency's not too shabby, nothing here is abandoned, and it's all free to read. That being the case, my policy is to delete 'update moar plz' posts. Don't be sad. Their culling strengthens the herd.
  • Please do feel free to criticize the stories. Not all of them are in a position to be edited right now, but I always value your honest input. I don't subscribe to the internet-fiction culture of overpraise; I'd rather read thoughtful criticism than shallow ego-pettings. Believe me, my ego's plenty big enough already, and you'd only pose a danger to air traffic by inflating it further.
  • I'm more chatty over on riverside_hq than I am here. You should go there. It is a silly place.

Give money to the crazy American Y/N?

Complete novels:

The God Eaters - A sort of steampunk sci-fi western. The totalitarian regime of the Eskarne Theocratic Commonwealth is determined to control or destroy anyone with a psychic Talent. Outlaw Kieran Trevarde and rebel propagandist Ashleigh Trine are bucking the system. But there's more to these powers than meets the eye, and a darkness from the dawn of history is awakening...

Kastor Chronicles 1: The Forge of Dawn - Pure sword-and-sorcery, inspired by greats like Glen Cook, Fritz Lieber, and Steven Brust. Kastor Auberlane is a barbarian berserker -- and a grumpy, insecure worrywart, but he has his pride. He's not going to put up with being collected by an immortal Mara for some unknown purpose, no matter how gorgeous or charming the untrustworthy bastard is.

Kastor Chronicles 2: The Road Home - When little Charis Auberlane gets himself 'kidnapped' so he can see his Da, it doesn't occur to him that it might cause an international incident. Kastor has to get him back to his mother before she does something serious. Incidentally, why are so many magical creatures coming after Kastor all of a sudden?

Complete short stories:

If You Can't Take the Heat - Scott is getting out of the kitchen, even if it means leaving Dane behind.

The West Canal - When gutter witch Julin Drum finds Miki floating facedown in the canal, he captures his ghost and takes it home. That's what witches do. But Miki is an uncommonly intense ghost, and things are getting personal. (Takes place in the same world as the Kastor Chronicles, but stands alone.)

Just Drive The Car - Being designated driver for the boss's alcoholic son Nicky is a pretty lame job for a made guy like Joey Marino. Joey's a loyal soldier, though, and besides... there's just something about Nicky he can't walk away from.

Metanoia stories - A series of short stories related to my webcomic Metanoia.

Henry and the Shadow - A life, as defined by negative space. Sorta autobiographical, kinda.

Active works in progress:

Kastor Chronicles 3: Brothers in Arms Kastor's been beaten to a pulp, his best friend kidnapped, his mysterious swords Patience and Reason stolen. As if that's not bad enough, the previously thoughtless Rema is suddenly capable of outwitting Stiaan. Kastor is pretty sure he's a magnet for bad luck. But he has allies he doesn't expect, and they can lead him to a power that could defeat Rema... if he has the will to master it.

Hench! stories - Ever wonder what superhero adventures look like from the mooks' point of view? Between crazy bosses and even crazier caped crusaders, it ain't no cakewalk.

Jack Saturday Can't Fail - Jack is a vampire, a punk, a homicidal maniac, and a general menace to society. Fortunately for the world, he's also a slacker who'd rather watch cartoons and chainsmoke than go on a killing spree. But when the devious Hunt Club comes gunning for his boss, Jack is sent on a road trip with his newly-turned novice Jacob in tow. Now he's bringing the mayhem, fighting it out against the Hunt Club and whoever else gets in his way, and trying his damnedest not to grow up.

Helix - Dr. Sebastian 'Bash' Ryan finds leading the Helix 4 storm study stressful enough without some thrillseeking yahoo trying to get himself tornadoed to death. And to make things worse, the adrenaline junkie is just his type...

Backburnered works in progress (please note -- these are NOT abandoned! They're just lower-priority than the 'active' list):

May's Ranch - Cowboy, Civil War veteran, Southern gentleman, homosexual; the thing Ezekiel Moss really doesn't want to be is a cynic. But that's not easy when the only honest man you know is a cattle rustler, and it seems the path to peace leads through a river of blood. Forgiveness is a hard trail to ride.

Summerlands - Engineering student and rock guitarist James Carver really doesn't have time to get kidnapped by an elven prince. The war that rages across the Summerlands is totally not his problem. The humans enslaved by the elves have been bred for docility so long they hardly even look human to him. And developing military technology for the rebel elves is probably an incredibly bad idea. That's just too bad -- they're not giving James a choice. But as soon as he finds a way home, he's outta there, so he's definitely not going to fall in love with an elf officer and start feeling responsible for the troops. He's way too smart for that.

The Fogjack Company - A bit of a ramble about Kastor's time with a mercenary company called the Bozai Irregulars, also known as the Fogjacks. Told from the POV of Graveyard, the company's long-suffering unarmed combat instructor. Be warned: this is not actually a novel. I don't have a plot in mind. It's really just a worldbuilding exercise. Also? Teenage Kas is kind of a brat. :D
