emo does stand for 'emotional' but the word refers to a specific genre, the meaning of which has now been quite corrupted. the word leaked into the vernacular and now everyone with glasses is emo and every sad song is emo. it's idiotic. emo was an underground music movement that began in the nineties: rites of spring, the promise ring, even early the appleseed cast are considered emo. if you are going to talk about how country is emotional, just say emotional. it's not emo. it's country.
