For sapphohestia

As some of you may know, sapphohestia house- and catsat for Surly and i while we were in Florida, as she needed a place to stay between moving out of her apartment here and into her apartment in D.C. All in all, i think it worked out well for everyone--Saph had a house to herself and a(n admittedly persnickity) cat for company, and Surly and i had someone to keep an eye on said cat for a good chunk of the time we were gone.

When Saph left for D.C., however, she left behind a cute little plant on one of the walls by our driveway. Eventually, after some correspondence with Saph, we found out that the plant was a clipping from a friend's plant, and all she knew was that it was a largeish plant with pink flowers. We left it outside for a while, but then realized that we'd forget to water it if we did (and the rain here is a bit funky, and can't be counted on to keep our plants alive), so we brought her into the house and--after a bit of trial and error, because we were also repotting a few plants and reorganizing where some of them went--ended up putting her in the small, high glass block window in our bedroom so that the cat would leave her alone.

Saturday i decided i would take a picture of the plant for Saph so that she could see how much it had started to grow:

Not bad--she's definitely bigger than she was when Saph left us with her, and she seemed to be so happy in the window ledge that she looked like maybe she'd have a go at this whole growing thing.

Of course, by "have a go" we thought maybe she'd pop a leaf or two and think some more about it.

Today, however, i walked into the bedroom and realized that i was definitely underestimating this plant's growing power, as this is what i found:

*GULP!1*

In honor of her growth spurt and her determination to be a big plant, Surly and i have named the little pistle (ha!1) Sprout!--the exclamation point, of course, because it seems to be her mission, and a very enthusiastic one at that.

I'm sure by next Tuesday she'll have taken over half the bedroom and we'll have to start sleeping with machetes in order to get out of bed. Until then, i thought i'd show sapphohestia just what had become of the little plant that could.

sprout!, silly, foliage, plants
