weird things meme

ganked from drydem.

1. Pick an unusual object in your bedroom. I'm not talking about the signed poster you got from a concert last year, or that godawful present that you didn't exchange because you knew it would hurt someone's feelings. I mean something that you kept in your room on purpose, even though it wouldn't make sense to anyone else, maybe not even to you.

2. Tell me about it. Write it as a story, or a poem, or just a simple explanation. Why is it important enough to have a place in your private space? This is NOT a critiqued writing assignment, and it's not me trying to get pry into your personal lives, so only share what you feel comfortable. I want to know all of you guys, and I think that some of the smallest things in our lives are the richest and most telling.

Comment, or give it a try. Either is good.

Salmacis and Kali.

they're the only two things to have been consistently hung up in my rooms since i obtained them. and they don't make much sense, in some ways. my sister saw them last night and, pointing at Salmacis, said 'you own a shirt with a flower on it?' she wasn't even fazed by the pair of disembodied black arms on Kali, or Salmacis's iridescent wings, but the shirt with the flower...THAT was weird.

they're an odd testament to roleplaying and costuming, in a way. but they also speak to me on a very yin-yang level. Salmacis is one of the girliest characters i've ever played, one of the most innocent and naive and oblivious and, well, child-like characters ever to darken my doorstep. Kali is much the opposite--she is a very lethal, purposeful entity, one who acts with the full knowledge of what she's doing and understands the consequences better than most anyone else (i mean, c'mon, she's a death-bringer). qualities of myself came out in my portrayal of each of them, but more importantly, i learned quite a bit from qualities of them that came out in me.

i've never thought about most of the above. i've always just known that they have to hang on the wall, side by side. they've got their own little ironies--Kali's currently wearing my pink feather boa, and has for a while; one of Salmacis's wings ripped neatly down the middle in my most recent move. my room feels bare without them.

so yeah. Salmacis and Kali.
