The reason you may have done badly at school is more to do with multiple intelligences than IQ alone. I was at a conference on it a while back. Schools are only takening on the idea that not everyone is good at maths and languages now.
I will admit that my IQ is higher, the number itself doesn't really matter, but it is because I'm very good at maths and reasoning. But can I spell, hell no. Can I learn lanuages, not really. I did well in my leaving cert (last exams before college forget what they are called A Levels?) because I did subjects that used a lot of maths. I still had to do two lanuages but i took german grinds for 4 years so i was just about able for it. My irish exam I learned off and it's sad to say but I'd be hard pressed to string a sentence together in irish despite learning it for 13 years. The irish government went about teaching it the wrong way, they shoved it down peoples necks for years but no one had any use for it, it was silly. I still haven't found a use for it apart from using it as a kinda code, but even then it's more like pidgin irish. Ah well, we irish now just use are time destorying the english lanuage.
Athlone has a wonderful use of verbs e.g English: I play football at the weekend. Athlone: I do be playing football at the weekend. See how we can get and extra two verbs in there. Lovely isn't it.
sorry bit OT there. where was i? oh yes IQ. My point,(yes i did have one is that it doesn't really matter how intelligent are you, i.e high IQ. My friends range from being quite academic to never going to college. What matters to me is that they are interesting, are not arrogant, have sense of humour and are easy going. I have met people who are quite intelligent but ya couldn't talk to them cos they just waffle on about rubbish that only interests them. luckly even though i'm a geek/nerd i know when to stop and talk about something els.
crap i had to go to lunch right where was i. i'm well aware that i could have edited but just skip over it, umkay. I started this message about 10 this moring and now its 2.35. the only reason i have to justify it is that i'm supposed to be working.
anywho, back to multiple intelligence. your aptitude obviously lies with more practical things. I could never be a chef. I can cook for myself and when my sis and I combine maybe up to 8 people. but all day everyday, nope i'd crack. Finding out what your good at is very difficult.
By the way, physics as a career is kinda hard i know a fizzy-syst and he is unemployeed at the moment. My sis is a sculptor/artist and she has applied for a job in B&Q, and that was her second stab at college. She did computers fisrt time round and hated it. Finding out what your good at may be difficult but sometimes making a living at it can be just as hard.
i should probable stop writting. Tori convinced me to start a journal too, but i keep forgetting to write in it cos everytime i go to add something i get a kinda block. but reading someone elses starts me off and ya see what happens. I like your idea that the journal is cathartic "empty my head" as you say. well thank you for letting me empty mine. now i just have to find something to fill it with. i like wikipedia - lots of info on just about everything.
Cheers Jean
Note: to write this article i looked up a number of words in google to get the right spelling, i may have missed some sorry.
If brains are like computers then I must need to defrag mine.
