Monday, 2 August 2004. Henry Fonda Theatre. THE HIVES.
Eluding the musical radar for quite sometime, they return...
YES!!!<2, the one and only Hives are here to bombard and indulge the senses with their artistic genius. They haven't played shows in a while, muchless any in the US...Therefore, this is a most glorious event that should be embraced...nay, a momentous occaision that MUST be seized!!!...

so this is my invitation. anyone up to go?
i finally decided to witness a band that reminds me so much of little bits and pieces of...Boccioni and the Futurist manifesto--"the primitives of a new and transformed sensibility", Mondrian and DeStijl, the playfulness of Duchamp (L.H.O.O.Q.), the International Style of Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright--Cubist inspired machine aesthetic, the school of Bauhaus, the abstract expressionism of Pollock AND Barnett Newman (Vir Heroicus Sublimis), Donald Judd's and Kaz Oshiro's minimalist inquiries, Warhol POP, a Richard Hamilton collage ('56), the flamboyance of Yves Klein...

...as well as some idealism and for some reason, emotion and feeling that can never be explained. "Hate to Say I Told You So" is SO overplayed and does not reflect their essence in entirety-- get Barely Legal or Your New Favourite Band (import). the style. the form. the presentation. the attitude. the delivery. raw, yet calculated. tongue in cheeck.

though musicians are artists, the converse isn't necessarily true. i am an artist and because of this, my love and admiration for music is for different reasons.

the HIVES-- intriguing, bewildering, mysterious... they are not as much as band to me as they are a symbolism of movement. join me. http://www.hivesmusic.com

blah blah blah. i'm done.

P.S. Dress your Black Kat in something else.
