I read the first two books in two days this summer and it was like a crazy fever dream. I loved it so much--it's clearly the shittier version of THG but I like Tris enough and Four is so hot and the pace was so quick. And I really even liked the end of the second book because I thought the Edith Prior video was going to lead to some awesome revelation about the outside world being this cray wasteland or something and then....Allegient happened.
Like, the POV was terrible. I never knew who I was reading. Four's choices were terrible and despite being in his head, I still didn't feel like I understood them. And like, the first two books had a plot that made it PRETTY GODDAMN CLEAR that the premise / theme of the series was 'nature versus nurture' and 'we choose our own destiny' ok so like, WHY WHY WHY throw in a weird genetic plotline to make it EVEN MORE OBVIOUS. also, you're writing for people who are probably currently taking 10th-grade Biology; you can stop explaining how genes work kthnx
I was astounded that Tris died because it was just so stupid? And then she never came back to life and I was like .............. why did you do this? Did you do this just to be different and shocking, Veronica Roth?
but i mean, it took me OVER A MONTH to read a book written for middle schoolers, so like, that should've been a big enough signal. (I would get through a chapter and be like oh thank god, I can stop without feeling guilty LOL)

YES GOD. Insurgent gave me martyr!Tris and Four and Tris being hot and making out all the time and then Allegient happened and everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.
FOUR'S CHOICES WERE JUST THE WORST CHOICES LOOOOL. I mean in isolation I think I could have dealt with it? But in combination with all the rest of the fuckery in that book, I mean of course he did.

I think that was the only reason she did it tbqh.
