Lol I'm skipping most of this because I've only read the first Divergent, but hahaha yes to nonsensical world-building (though honestly, it bothered me just from what I'd read) and also reminded me immediately of a Hunger Games and Harry Potter mashup.

YES FOUR/TRIS IS THE OTP. I actually found them hot from the get-go which isn't something I'm used to feeling in YA ships, but they work so well and actually talk and learn things about each other and face obstacles ~together. But ACTUALLY I spent the entire two-three weeks after watching the trailer and reading the first book just making gifs of them. I anticipate this co-dependence you're telling me about, it sounds like my crack.

In conclusion:

Without getting too spoilery, I wasn't even too bothered by the shitty world building in the first couple of books. I've always been more interested in character/relationship development than the plot so in that sense it hit my kinks.

and also the Four/Tris otp for life I can't even stand how much I like them, so rude of you Veronica Roth.

but they work so well and actually talk and learn things about each other and face obstacles ~together.

THIS. I think what's remarkable about them for a YA relationship is that I get what they see in each other and also why they make each other ~better together (as trite as that is?) It's a very balanced relationship. And I am such a sucker for co-dependence and overcoming obstacles together. \o/

How very dare you post those gifs without a warning. Rude.

The guy they cast as Four isn't what I pictured really but man is he good looking lol. Thank you for your latest import, Britain.

Man this is the correct choice, the DW Christmas Special was actually more of a mess even than the 50th--though ( ... )

Lol you're reading the wrong YA books Frances, don't let the Twilight and THG relationships scare you off!

Hahaha, my reaction to the casting was (1) isn't he thirty and isn't Tobias 18?? and (2) but wait didn't he also play that guy who tried to sleep with Lady Mary in Downton Abbey and died of a heart attack?

So.

He is good looking though. No wonder Tris is consistently checking him out during the trailer.

I am reading the wrong relationships, I am!! I think the world of YA has conditioned me to expect and accept love triangles in everything, but it's so much better when we don't get them!!

THAT IS ALL TRUE BUT THE PRETTY. \o/

I am shallow.

WHO WILL SHE CHOOSE?!?!

Embarrassingly, 90% of the YA I read contains a love triangle too. I was going to rec you a series that sounds like all the things you like, but it's a sequel series, and the first series has a five-book-long love triangle. So.

Well I mean there is no need to discriminate. Most everything I like seems to involve a triangle at this point.

It's just that I mean Veronica Roth does not have a lot else going for her series besides "there was no triangle."

Actually... have I recommended it to you before? It's Bloodlines by Richelle Mead. The series with the love triangle, which takes place before it, is Vampire Academy.
