Back from NYC! It was awesome though I am much poorer than I was a week ago lol. HOWEVER before I update about my trip, there are more important things to cover.
I see your comments and raise you...more comments!

This one, however, has the distinction of being the first one to get an actual tear out of me. When all the ghosts were going away for good I was like BAWWWWW. And then I felt quite silly. Because I was crying at a television show.
Aw! *hands over tissue*
The switch thing is maddening, and at this point I've all but given up on consistency re. whether or not it exists. The writers just seem to be using it or not using it depending on when it's convenient for maximum angst.
I suspect you are correct. This is obviously something that we as a fandom will have to try and fix by writing lots of meta that will eventually be jossed.
Re. Anna/Jeremy/Bonnie: this just served to remind me why I've never liked Jeremy/Bonnie. Jeremy and Anna had a more plausible connection (and had more chemistry this episode) in three weeks than Jeremy and Bonnie have had in...what's it been? Almost a season?
Yeah, I would agree with you. It's not hard to be better developed than Bonnie/Jeremy though lol.
Jeremy and Bonnie...I don't know. Jeremy's plotlines have had a way of falling prey to something I've only ever seen with female characters: romance as a substitute for character development
YES. THIS IS SO TRUE. And I think that's largely what my problem has been - I LOVE Bonnie, I like Anna, but... I don't really care about Jeremy? So it was hard to be all that interested in a triangle that had Jeremy at the centre of it. Also there is SO MUCH to work with Jeremy that does not involve his love life - guilt because he was brought back to life when all his parents died! Maybe some resentment towards Elena for essentially being the reason all his parents are killed? Or even now being a teenager being raised by his sister and his history teacher. All of that would make him a real character.
So when ghost-kiss happened, I was sad for Bonnie because being cheated on sucks, but at the same time I also kind of went, "hey, maybe this'll give the writers a chance to pair both of them with people I can actually see them with. You know. Beyond Word of God." //two cents.
Yeah, cheating sucks but I wasn't particularly outraged either. Plus I am desperate for Bonnie to get a real plotline. I loved seeing her with Grams again. Those scenes were lovely.
As it is...I'll be honest. I have a lot of trouble caring when this show kills a character unceremoniously, because a. I've known them for so short a time and b. I'm expecting it
Yeah, I can see that. I was pretty torn up about Lexi, Rose, Anna, Pearl, Grams, and Elijah but lol I might just be really easy. Sometimes I do suspect I am basically this show's target audience. :p
I was about to say the only character for whom I feel this has been largely untrue is Katherine, and then I remembered that we still don't even know what the shit happened to her. I'm with you: IS SHE DEAD? IS SHE ALIVE? WHAT IS HAPPEN?
Even though Jeremy is pure misogynistic creep, I liked that one cut scene with Jeremy and Stefan post-Jeremy's suicide attempt, where Jeremy is kind of fidgety and asking Stefan questions in a way that suggested he kind of looked up to Stefan; because hey, calm and stolid centuries old dude, not a bad role model on the surface. Of course...as it turns out....
Also: I definitely feel when supporting cast dies, but it's not an impact and I'm not surprised. I just go 'oh, the TVD writers did something awful for cheap shock value again, TO THE FANFICMOBILE.'
