Doctor Who: Ten's regeniversary

Jan 02, 2011 12:13

First, welcome new TVD friends! \o/ I am so pleased to have you here. I recently made an introductory About Me post (locked), but the tl;dr version is that I am: 23, Canadian law student, political nerd, a crazy hockey fan, currently obsessed with the Vampire Diaries and formerly obsessed with Doctor Who (my life can be traced by following a series of fandoms from one to the other).

SECONDLY, firstofoct made a crack yesterday about how I never post about Doctor Who anymore, which is probably a valid complaint. So since it is the anniversary of Ten’s death (Deathiversary?? Regeniversary?), I decided to post about that.

I had a momentarily dilemma on dwrewatch the other day where I couldn’t decide whether Waters of Mars or End of Time II was my favourite of the S4.5 specials. And at the risk of incurring the wrath of... certain... people... I ended up going with EoT. Waters of Mars is a game changer and would make it into my top five episodes, but there’s something so complete about EoT for me. It makes me laugh and cry, it’s properly sentimental without ever knocking me out of the story, the characterization is perfect, and of course, we get to see all our companions one last time and I loved all those characters so fiercely. RTD’s goodbye to Ten is near perfect. End of Time II is a bit of an ode to how much he loved his characters-and that’s okay because I loved them too.

ALSO LET US DEAL WITH JUST HOW HOT DAVID TENNANT WAS IN HIS SWAN SONG.

Just look at the hair at the sideburns. David Tennant, what have you done to yourself since the Doctor Who people stopped grooming you.

WHY IS JUST LOOKING AT THESE PICTURES SO TRAGIC:

Jfc. The first time I watched this, it was basically like ANNNNNNND CUE THE HYSTERICS.

THINGS THAT WERE GREAT: rage-against-the-dying-of-the-light!Ten. I loved him sfm. YOU YELL “IT’S NOT FAIR” AND SHOVE THOSE PAPERS OFF THE DESK BB.

God look at that thing he does where it looks like he might cry but then he doesn’t. Why is that so great.

It is ridiculous how much I love the Whirlwind Companion Death Tour. I LOVE THEM ALL SO MUCH AND THEY ALL GOT HAPPY ENDINGS SORT OF. I watched it like ten times in the week after the episode aired. And just-so bittersweet for Ten, being able to do something for the people he loves before he dies.

Was she happy?

Yes, I think she was in the end. Yes, she was. Were you?

It’s the saddest smile ever.

AND THE LAST VISIT, SEEING THE WOMAN HE LOVES ONE LAST TIME. I love this ship. I loved that story. You stalk those schoolgirls from alleyways, Ten.

Rose: You all right, mate?

Doctor: Yeah.

Rose: Too much to drink?

Doctor: Something like that.

Rose: Maybe it’s time you went home.

Doctor: Yeah.

Rose: Anyway, happy New Year.

Doctor: And you. [she starts to walk away] What year is this?

Rose: Blimey! How much have you had?

Doctor: Well.

Rose: 2005, January the first.

Doctor: 2005. Tell you what, I bet you’re going to have a really great year.

Rose: Yeah? See ya.

doctor who: season 4.5, doctor who: picspam, regeneration what regeneration, ten/rose
