janetmaca and I watched today’s episode together, so if you have already read Kali's reaction... 80% of mine will probably be exactly the same.
-Weeping angels are still creepy, so well played, Moffat. I spent most of the episode going “AHHH WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN AHHH” and being impressed by the clever dialogue and plot twists, so I see that you are up to your old tricks.
-Given how hard I flounced over River last time she showed up, it’s really hard to be objective about her. Um... I really only cringed at the beginning when it was like: She knows Gallifreyan!! And how to fly the TARDIS!!! And how to make the brakes work properly!!! She even juliennes fries!!! But then I got over that when Matt Smith made TARDIS noises with his mouth because LOL LOL YES.
-My favourite part of the Doctor and River dynamic was how they acted like mummy and daddy to Amy. If all their interaction was like that.... well, I probably still wouldn’t ship it, but I would probably legitimately enjoy it.
-I still find their relationship so utterly bizarre. Kali pointed out that now he has to teach her Gallifreyan and how to fly the TARDIS because he saw her doing it in his past. Man, there is not a lot about this relationship based on “free will” and “personal choice” is there? Okay, fine.
-So Eleven definitively states that River is his future wife, and River goes “LOL I KNOW SOMETHING YOU DON’T KNOW LOL” to Amy and was also in prison... for something. I feel like the Doctor is just going to keep meeting River at all these different points in her timeline and we’re going to be told that she is important in this future while never actually getting there. And at some point they fall in love? Idk, I think Matt Smith and Alex Kingston have better chemistry than David Tennant and Alex Kingston, but I’m still not getting the sense of ~deep romantic love and connection~ from their interactions. So who knows. I suspect Moffat will keep this mysterious for as long as he can.
-I laughed so hard when the Doctor’s first reaction was to drop River off and then RUN AWAY FROM ANY POTENTIAL AWKWARDNESS. I think that if someone popped up from my future to say that we were destined to get married, I would try and run the fuck away next time I saw him or her too, so I feel you, Eleven.
-LOL @ HIM GIVING HER A PICTUREBOOK OF ALL HIS INCARNATIONS. I assume that at some point Thirteen was like “OH RIGHT, my tenth incarnation sends you to your death” and then like... cuts a headshot of Ten out of some picture he took with a companion so that you can still sort tell his arm is supposed to be around someone.
-I think a part of me is still oddly butthurt in this “HDU MAKE YOUR OTP MORE EPIC THAN MINE, MOFFAT, HDU” kind of way, but on the other hand, I found it really hilarious that Eleven’s reaction to seeing her again was LOLNO. Whatever, guys, even if she is his...wife... or...something... he clearly liked Rose a whole lot better, so that helps.
-Aww, poor Bob. I also like the name “Bob.” I also approve of the Weeping Angels trying to make the Doctor feel crushing guilt by using his voice to communicate. A+, Weeping Angels.
-Also there is a cracky Cloen/Rose marriage fic that needs to be written where he’s like, “BTWs, Rose, if you ever need my past self to trust you in a library, just say the name ‘Chester’ in my ear. But don’t tell anyone, IT IS A DEEPLY GUARDED SECRET.”
This made me laugh so hard. What is she even...? There was a fifth Doctor episode like this once, but even he at least wore a helmet.
HE MADE TARDIS NOISES WITH HIS MOUTH AND IT WAS REALLY ADORABLE. My heart well and truly fangirled Eleven for the first time since Ten died alone in the TARDIS with some Ood. Well played, Matt Smith.
I thought this was a really nice shot of Matt Smith. It wasn’t exactly an “OH YES” moment but it did make me go “oooh” appreciatively.
I like that when he is in a bad mood, he takes things out on Amy. Man, Eleven, you are a douche.
Doctor: River, hug Amy.
Amy: Why?
Doctor: ‘Cos I’m busy.
:D :D :D I love mummy and daddy River and Doctor. Write me more of it, Moffat please.
Aww, I liked this scene between Amy and Eleven. Now that she has finally been in mortal peril, we know that she is a real companion. I am also intrigued by the line about “time can be re-written.” Man, Doctor/River, you are a weird relationship.
