I started reading "Spock's World"

Jul 13, 2013 02:29

Some of you may remember that I picked it up for ten cents at the Friends of the Library book sale in Ithaca, NY. [USED BOOK SALES!!!!!!!]

(Because, as we all know, you memorize all the little happenings of my life that I share here.)

Anyway, I started reading it, and I'm pretty sure I'm enjoying it. The writing does not set my teeth on edge, and the story looks to be at least mildly interesting. There are some little character things that I enjoy, and I have laughed out loud at some of Spock and McCoy's sniping.

[Random pet peeve: My instinct is to type "laughed out loud at the Spock/McCoy sniping", but in fandom, that means something else. *glares even harder at slashers*]

But I have two complaints:

1. Duane, your writing is fine. It does not justify multiple page musings on the evolution of the universe and Vulcan itself. In fact, it doesn't even justify the paragraph long descriptions. So please stop.

2. Seriously, there have never been that many different bizarre kinds of aliens on the Enterprise. There aren't that many bizarre globulous things and horta and tentacle faces and eight personality aliens etc. even in the most recent Star Trek series, and there's no WAY they could have 20 foot long crewmembers that are actually chimaera. So please get over that, too. I'm sick of hearing about them.

Now I'm going to try to go to bed. :-D

star trek, spock, books!
