OMG, I can so see this. John and Sherlock growing old and grumpy, just like a long-married bickering couple how love one another to bits, but can't stop snarking. I loved it, thanks.

Thank you for reviewing! I sort of think of them as the Odd Couple but weirder. :-P

You gutted me with this part:

“You didn’t see? You looked straight at him.”

Sherlock stared hard at the kitchen table. “I can’t remember,” he muttered to himself. “I can’t...”

:-(

That was the only one that I meant to be 100% genuine, so I'm glad it worked. My headcanon gets depressing.

Oh, this is lovely. I tend not to be a particular fan of retirement-era stories, mostly because I just find them too depressing... but this was well done. Fun, and amusing, but with some parts that just hit me. Mmm. I really like that feeling of growth, yet familiarity, and just The Way Things Are between them. :)

Thank you! I'm afraid if you go any farther into my headcanon of their retirement it will become WAY too depressing. :-P

I can be a bit odd in my responses to tragedy/depressing/generally sad things in stories. There are many things that I've felt like I should enjoy more, either from a general artistic/literary perspective or as a matter of personal taste, but... Sometimes I just react to them really strongly, and not in a cathartic way ( ... )

Ah, growing old disgracefully together - what a delightful idea!
