Pharmacology Practical 3

Nov 23, 2005 22:16

A somewhat ordinary week at southampton Boldrewood campus was interrupted with the order that an hour earlier than normal we were all instructed to start the practical session.

Practicals are practicals however this week there was a slight 'twist" to it you could say.

I entered lab 4East with the a small topped beaker handed to me. I was then told to go downstairs excrete in this small vessel. Shocked i completed the task and returned to find other boys had managed to produce about 10 times the amount I had come back with. That however was only the beginning. We were then told to take about a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda which tasted revolting before being after a half hour of drinking water to go and collect another urine sample, and then some aspirin. Over the course of the next hour and a half we had to go 3 more times plotting what affect aspirin had on blood levels according to whether it was soluble or insoluble, each time I might add there was the surmounting difficulty of collecting a sample in the first place.

You can imagine the smell of the lab towards the end of the session with everyones "samples" all over the place.

Thought I might share that tit bit with you all.

AK.
