Trying to make people laugh...

...AKA getting back on the comedy horse

I love doing stand-up comedy.  It's the most fun you can have fully-clothed and standing on a stage in front of a crowd of slightly drunk people.  But the whole "trying to kickstart a career in comedy" takes so much time and effort and brazen self-publicity that at times I wonder why I do it at all.

Today was good though.  I found out about a relatively new club in the next city down the coast from here, and emailed the organiser asking for an open spot (open spots are generally unpaid five or ten minute spots... I've been doing them for a year; hope to move up to paid spots at some time much much later in 2007).  Anyway, I gave the guy a link to a YouTube video of me doing my act.  He emailed me back instantly, offered me an open spot for February and said he really liked my material and that there might be a paid spot soon.  Hurrah!

I'm about to start doing all the big new act competitions for the second year in a row.  Wish me luck!  And particularly, wish me the dedication and commitment to continue - it's such good fun when it goes right, but it's so easy just to waste time and not get off my arse and organise gigs.

Talking of getting off my arse, better go and write some more of my novel...
