My Morning Jacket are pretty much everything you could want from a rock band. They are loud and passionate, ambitious and epic, with great tunes, a love for American musical heritage plus - and this isn't always the case in rock - you can actually dance to them. Jim James' voice is gorgeous. I saw them Friday night at the Astoria in London and was swept away. I love It Still Moves and more than love Z - in fact it's not been out of my car CD player for almost a year. So I was enthralled to see them play for two hours of hard-driving, swirling epic rock. Jim was in great voice. The other thing I need to mention is how hairy they are. The drummer looked pretty much as if he was made of hair. I couldn't tell he had a face until near the end, when I suddenly saw it peeking through the curtains of hair. This was a perfect night - one of those moments when music can become something very close to a religious experience. Wonderful.
