 Hello again, Livejournal.

Well, a few things have been resolved since the last time I posted.

Chris finally got approved for disability. It happened a few weeks ago just kind of out of the blue. He had a phone interview with one of their people and while I was half asleep for most of it, it was a fairly short phone call and by the time he hung up I ( Read more... )

I was unemployed for about 5 months so I know how it is.

I would really get going on filing for disability if you're serious about it. You don't have to answer if you don't want to, but what would be your qualifier?

My boyfriend has been trying for about 3 years to get approved, because he has had two herniated discs and 3 back surgeries. He has 6 metal screws and rods in his back and.. he got approved because they deemed him crazy. Well, he got diagnosed with bipolar and anxiety and shit so yeah, that's why he gets disability, not because of his back. I find that so weird and he said he was kind of insulted, haha.

I think he was on like his 5th time trying to get approved and finally got a lawyer involved, even though she didn't do anything (rant for another time ahem). Then they did that phone interview and approved him and voila. I'd say though, if you get denied after the like 2nd or 3rd one I'd get a lawyer if you can and not skirt around it, cause I think he could have gotten it awhile ago if he'd done that sooner. I, personally, didnt even know you could do that otherwise I would have said something earlier as well.

Anyway, I'll quit rambling. Good luck if you go for it! Let me know how it goes.

See that's the thing I don't know what would qualify me and I don't have the drive or effort to figure things out. I can self-diagnose, but I have no idea what mental thing I have (if any) that would qualify me. i should have done it ages ago, but i feel lik eh, I've been unemployed these years and I survived why bother going thru this bureaucratic shit if I don't even know ifit'd work out - especially if I have no one who knows the system to help me out? (whoa sorry that was a long response).

But yeah, I hhave NOOO money for a lawyer and it just seems like it would just be a lost cause. it'd be mental disability and that seems even harder to prove. meh. it's always easier to just life so buy hiding under the covers, lol

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reply, I don't come on here often.

It is indeed a bunch of bullshit, but mostly it's just paperwork and waiting. And it's 98% waiting. So I mean, if you've already waited for so long, it really couldn't hurt to at least get the paperwork in and hurry up to wait EVEN MORE! WOO! :P In regards to not knowing anyone to help you, I can almost guarantee there's gotta be someone around your city that does. My boyfriend actually got a caseworker through the Salvation Army (for free) to help him get his foot in the door, get the right paperwork, make sure it was filled out correctly, send it in for him etc.

And in regards to the lawyer/attorney (I'm honestly not sure what the difference is??) you could search for ones who deal specifically with disability benefits. The one my bf hired didn't require any type of money up front, but she did take 25% of his back pay. So in essence they'll still get your money, but it won't really be coming out of your pocket.
