so i watched this movie recently, and i must admit that it wasn't a terribly bad little flick. i thought the story was actually pretty decent, and it almost makes me want to read the book, despite the fact that it's kind of a modern day interpretation of pride and prejudice. there's something about suburbanite dysfunction that i find fascinating.
but the most fascinating aspect of this entire movie was the sexual offender character, being played by jackie earle haley, whom most everyone had a crush of the month on after his great portrayal of everyone's favorite watchman, rorschach. sure, he looked creepy as the bastard ginger kid in watchmen, but i don't think you know creepy until you see him in little children. i don't think i've ever found more ironic inadvertent humor, from a scene where he goes on a blind date, only to discover that she's about as twisted in the head, and on so much meds, that people have a hard time believing her. so he takes advantage of the circumstances, and being so turned on by her similar psychological deficiencies, jerks off right in front of her, knowing nobody would believe her, mortifying her to sadness.
but anyway, lol, at the thought of sex offender-slayer rorschach, playing the role of a sex offender for a change. and that he does it so well, that it kind of turns into one of those "there is a thin line dividing heroism and insanity" scenarios.
