Umineko no Naku Koro niCharacter Age: Claims to be 1,000. Appears to be 19.
Canon: Welcome to the island of Rokkenjima. You’re at a family meeting on an island, a storm hits, and said family is suddenly brutally murdered by the the fabled witch, Beatrice the Golden. Sounds like an ideal vacation, doesn’t it? After Battler, the protagonist, is killed and revived, he challenges Beatrice herself to a game of Mystery vs. Fantasy. While Battler will oppose Beatrice by denying her magic, Beatrice will attempt to prove that she is, in actuality, a witch. Is the culprit a witch, or a human?
Upon first glance, Beatrice comes off as intimidating, elegant, and incredibly clever. At the same time, she’s arrogant, childish, a sadist, and a bully. However, she’s naive in a strange way. With the power to revive both living and inanimate objects as many times as she pleases, she abuses this magic and appears to see nothing wrong with killing others for amusement’s sake. Despite her ruthless appearance, there’s more to her than meets the eye, and unfortunately, that side of her isn’t often seen by just anyone she meets. She enjoys tea parties, sweets, and hates boredom more than anything else. With her fondness for riddles, she tends to speak in a confusing and peculiar manner: speaking in chess and food analogies, stretching some of her words, and sometimes repeating herself.
Note: Beatrice is being apped from the beginning of Episode 3.
SAMPLE: Hoh. Perhaps I should at least praise Elizabeth Sayre for including these charming creatures in this game of hers. Moogles, was it? Although the magic that seems to be potent here is still almost nothing in comparison to my own, I am fond of these native beings. Truly interesting, truly interesting, indeed; even after living for over 1,000 years, I have rarely had the chance to meet animals that are so unique and talented. This is what a witch seeks--to have another to play around with similar magic. Spending time with those Moogles will be enough to kill boredom for perhaps another few hundred years! The ability to alter one’s fate for even a short period of time and bring them to life once more is a skill that humans and demons alike could only wish to have.
But, if I am to do that, it would be wise to speak to the person that is in charge of this place. That’s right, that’s right--when I meet her, I want to have tea with Elizabeth. A host should not refuse a guest that much, right? It is an honor to be in my very presence. After all, it is not every day that one is given the chance to meet and speak with the Golden and Endless Witch, Alchemist of the Ushiromiya family. And so, when the time comes to have tea with her, I want to show her my own endless magic that she has become so fond of!
Make no mistake, I have not forgotten that I am not the one in control of this world. But, I shall also not allow myself, Beatrice the Golden, to be summoned away from a game that is still in progress so easily! Hmph. She certainly is a rude one, interrupting another’s game as she has. Even a servant knows better manners than thiiiis!
… Though, it is fine. That will only make meeting her more satisfying. I want to see the look on her face if she herself is to experience the magic of being turned into nothing more than a lump of meat, and revived over and over again! If one is to play a game of chess, the pieces should be placed accordingly before capturing the Queen, correct? Ufufufufufufufu!
