So I have decided the time has come to get serious about loosing a little bit of weight and eating healthier. I read
Superfoods RX and it inspired me to throw out basically everything in my cabinet and fridge and start fresh. I even went to Whole Foods and spent a little too much money to get myself started. So far so good. It's really not that hard, yet. I am also going to Snap! at least 3 mornings a week. Miss Eleanor Rigby has also helped as she has been getting me up every morning earlier than normal and I am trying to leash train her, so I have been going for more walks. I have lost 4 pounds! (hey, it's a start)
So, last night I thought it might be nice to go out to dinner with
peachy_c. We decided to go to Chili's. When I go, I usually get the Chicken Crisper Platter. (Yum!) Just for the heck of it, I decided to look up the nutritional info on it. I was completely shocked and disgusted!!
This is what I discovered. Omigod! No way was I going to eat this. No wonder people are getting so fat! And just think, most people would eat this whole thing and probably also get a Coke and maybe even chips or a dessert. This is basically everything you should eat in one day, plus more than two days worth of the fat a person should eat!! I just couldn't do it. I really, really want to eat better and get healthy. (It turns out I also have high cholesterol.) I am determined to be better. So, I had the
chicken fajitas instead, which were a little bit better, I guess. (Of course you have to get the
tortillas, too.) And I only had water to drink. I felt better about this decision. I think in the future eating out is not going to be happening very often. I think this will help me, in many ways, including saving money!
What I am discovering is how little I actually know about basic nutrition. It's really shocking and enlightening as am learning about it. (ie; how many calories a person should eat in a day, what is ACTUALLY in a lot of the food we eat, what causes things like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease etc...) It's actually kind of interesting. I am learning something new everyday!
