============================
PROPOSAL DEADLINE: December 1st, 2008.
CUQSC is seeking workshops for this year's program!!!
What is CUQSC?
The Canadian University Queer Services Conference (CUQSC) was initiated in 2006 by the Pride Centre at the University of Ottawa. With the goal of creating a nation-wide network of campus queer services, it has since become an annual affair, establishing itself in Winnipeg (2007), Montreal (2008), and now in Guelph come January of 2009.
The official theme of this year's conference is “CONVERGENCE: Exploring Intersections of Oppressions.” The three-day conference (Jan 23-25, 2009) will feature workshops, events and speakers that focus on queer issues within campus service organization, and will work to showcase how different forms of oppression intersect and interact with one another.
Though the focal point of the conference is on queer services, the themes and topics addressed will strive to create an understanding of the relationships between diversity, service provision, and discrimination on campuses. Our hope is to offer up a forum for students and employees alike to invent constructive ways of improving their campus communities.

===========================
With a title of “Convergence,” the CUQSC conference this year will be focusing on intersecting oppressions, highlighting ways that queerness interacts with other oppressed identities. A strong emphasis will be placed on exploring various forms of oppression and how they intersect (or converge).
Topics which discuss interlocking systemic oppressions of race, sexuality, disability, gender, size, class, etc. are especially encouraged!
Workshops are an integral part of the CUQSC program. By offering a large variety of workshops, delegates are able to tune into the issues, movements, groups, ideas, etc. that most interest and invigorate them.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR...
Workshop sessions will take place:
Saturday, January 24th at 11-12:30pm; 12:30pm-2pm; and 3-4:30pm
Sunday, January 25th at 11-12:30pm.
We encourage a nuanced level of critical analysis. We are open to a variety of formats, keeping in mind that we are committed to popular education and accessibility (i.e., workshops can be interactive/participatory).
We are looking for workshops that are critical introductions and focus on ways to incorporate anti-oppression and progressive activism into the everyday lives of those involved with University organizing. We are hoping to offer workshops that are geared both towards direct service providers and those working and volunteering within service-oriented organizations.
* Workshops can be in English or French
* Each workshop will have approximately 40 students
An honorarium will be provided for the presenter(s) of each workshop.
Please note: Because of our location, the primary language of all conference proceedings will be English. Where a workshop is presented in French, English translation will automatically be arranged. French translation will be provided for any English-language workshops and events upon request.
