Films set in Naples and Ischia.

What follows is certainly not an exhaustive list. I have simply listed 18 films that I have seen and consider worthwhile for one reason or another. This is an advice for you to watch these films, thus you will be able to know better the recent history of my country. I hope you'll find them in an English edition. That is, if I were to start a ( Read more... )

That's quite a list of movies that were filmed in Naples and Ischia. I only recognize three of the names from the list of movies.

I remember some of the first photos I saw of Ischia which you posted have the houses built up the side of the mountain. That photograph has stuck in my mind. What is the population of Ischia?

Has is Ischia doing today? I remember that tragic mudslide not so long ago.

Ischia has 70.000 inhabitants (500.000 in the summer) and for the most part of them, they are good people, naturally due to a touristic mentality opened to the greeting.

After the mudslide a lot of things are changed... Everytime there is a thunderstorm, we are terrified.

I understand tourism is big in Ischia. With a population of 70,000 residents, I can't imagine where all the tourists stay when Ischia is flooded with 500,000 in the summer.

I can undestand your fear when you hear a thunderstorm approaching.

Summer is ending and the kids here return to school this Wednesday. I believe your concert tour ends in October if I remember correctly. I hope you have had a good turnout for your performances.

Here the kids will return to school the 20. September. In October I'll be in Argentina and then in Germany. I'm going to conclude a concert tour in Ohio, for the 2007 season, but the we are still speaking about the terms.

Are these in English or Italian with subtitles?

I think you can find them in English version, but as the most part of movies with another language, not all the sense of the storyline is perfect. I hope you'll enjoy them, even with subtitles.

the only Massimo Troisi film i've seen is, as one might expect, Il Postino, and he was lovely in it. i was so sad to learn he died within hours of finishing it.

i didn't know the italian title of Shoeshine was Sciuscia'! the only one here i've seen is La Baia di Napoli, but i'll try to find some of these. (lina wertmuller's films are always interesting, even if wildly uneven.)

Regarding Wertmuller, you are right, I think you must have a particular italian background to understand the whole sense of her movies. But I think that your italian experience is sufficient.
I bless you, my friend *h*

Where was "After the Fox" (with Peter Sellers and Victor Mature) shot?

Here, at Ischia. The Italian title is "Caccia alla volpe".
