I brought one of my composition books with me on tour intending to fill it with the daily events and thoughts. I found it today. I only wrote in it once. On that page was a receipt for 50 bucks worth of gas in nebraska on July 1st, and this:
I live in a van down by the river.
The Midwest's blood flows
through intersecting rivers
and concrete streams of
combusting travelers, commuters, and
consumer goods exploding out of
Walmart Megastores.
--Mississippi-Huron-Ohio-Erie-Hudson-Missouri--
And back over again.
We drive past farms and sleep
under stars where families
park their cars to rest
and enjoy neatly packed lunches
ignoring us lifeless, dirty, smelly
individuals asleep behind the bushes.
