A new beginning of sorts

Every time that I come in here to update the journal, I start out thinking something and then as soon as I click the update link, all thoughts leave my mind and I'm left here wondering what to say. Rather like now actually. It's very similar to how it is when I go to a music store. I have a huge backlog of cds I want to get, but as soon as I step into the store, I can't think of a single one. I used to combat that problem with a lovely excel list I kept in my wallet. I haven't maintained one for ages now, though that's probably a good thing. Too tempting. ;)

Okay, so let's go stream of consciousness or something. I have a cd of mp3s on shuffle right now, and the Spinanes were just playing. It was odd, because it makes me remember when I first started listening to them. I remember waiting outside the San Diego airport for my aunt listening to Kid in Candy on a minidisc player I bought just after I got out of college. By the time I'd heard of them, they had already broken up. It's always disappointing to find a band after the fact, simply because you'll never get anything new. On the other hand, I do like finding bands from way back that weren't popular but totally should have been. Catch-22 I suppose. Now it's Longview - Nowhere. Actually Blueline Medic - Sleepyhead came first, but by the time I'd finished typing it was already over. Back to Longview, they're good, but somehow familiar in a bad way. I like them, but feel like they are derivative of something I can't quite place. If that makes sense. I really need to get the jukebox working. I want it downstairs so I can listen to music while I cook. Currently I've got linux on it and running, the touchscreen works, but I haven't managed to get wireless networking happy. Unfortunately, I bought the wireless card when I was running Windows, and it's some freaky version of a known good card which I know now comes in about 6 different variations. I managed to get the crap one that has no internal firmware. So I'm going to have to do some acrobatics to get it to work. FYI do NOT buy a D-Link DWL-520 if you don't know that the version is definitely NOT E1 and you're planning to run linux.

I suppose I could just be listening to cds or the radio, but somehow it's just too much trouble to go rummaging through the cds to try and find the one I want only not to find it. It's frustrating. Plus, back when I lived in an apartment I moved all my cds to sleeves, due to space concerns. It makes it very annoying for me as I can't just scan through the titles on the end, there are no ends, I have to flip though. I need to move them back to their cases, which I kept in boxes, yay for me! Same thing with movies, and remotes for that matter. At one point I tried using a touchscreen remote, but I like the tactile feel I guess. I don't look at the keys I'm pressing, I just feel for them. Just like I touch type, it would be impossible for me if there was no feedback.

Okay, I must go work now, but I updated this, just for Dom. So she better feel special. While I was at it I changed the look completely, so check it out if you want. :)

Hasta mi amigos!
