I managed to get a second-degree burn on the roof of my mouth today. I mean, I know I ordered hot apple cider, but that was rediculous. I get expresso at this same place regularly, and it's never been that hot. 'Course, they add milk. But still: one tiny sip, aerated as it entered my mouth to spread it out and cool it, and instantly I felt the roof of my mouth blister. It was the strangest feeling. I felt the top layer of (skin?)(flesh?) harden and seperate, as if it were wax. I asked the barista for an ice cube for my mouth and two for my drink. The layer of dead skin has been sloughing off all day. Yuck.
