I haven't had an actual update on my life in a bit. For those who are wondering:
I'm still renting from
poly_good_girl and
antirrinum_m. We live together well, but I'd like a place of my own. I'd like a room for
shoes_the_dog and space to set up my furniture and have a fish tank and more houseplants.
That takes money, though, and I still have not found a job. So frusterating! Everyone wants experience, not just a degree. I have an interview tomorrow with the State Department of Parks and Recreation. It is a six month contract (renewable for up to two years) that pays crap, but at least it would be experience. I'm also applying for a job with the City of Lacey planning dept. and one with the Dept. of Ecology. Cross your fingers for the Lacey job; it pays nearly 50K a year, is right here, and is doing much closer to what I'd like to do in the long run. Really, I'd rather work in the Seattle area, but there are advantages to staying here in Thurston County.
journey2master came up for a short visit, and just left yesterday. He's heading back to Australia Friday to see if he can make the budding relationship he found there bloom. He's going through a lot right now, being pulled in at least two directions, and I'm trying to be as supportive as I can. I'm afraid I'm not doing a very good job of it. He says he understands, but I feel badly. I was being snippy at him this whole visit, for no good reason.
shoes_the_dog is having trouble in school again, and it looks like we're in for another fight over his education. I was really hoping that would be over. They changed the teacher and the program over the Summer without letting any of the parents know, and he's not really being successful there now.
Those are the big events in my life recently, but it is the little daily things that determine how life is going, really. On a daily basis, I am very happy. I could use better sleep, as always, and I'm worried about not having money to get medical care, but mostly life is really good. I still love working at the Co-op, my social calender is always full, I feel peaceful in my cozy little space, and on the evenings I'm home I have wonderful house-mates to cook with and game with and watch Buffy and Angel with.
One of the things that helps me adapt to changes is making a space my own, expressing myself in some way and marking a little nest as "mine". I've been frusterated by the fact that all of my bedding is from when I was a little girl, and not even chosen by me. It is all very pink, and sized for a full mattress, not a queen sized one. I've been looking for a nice quilt and not finding what I wanted at a price I could afford. I finally bought a solid green quilt from Cost Plus with a
silk throw that lays over the top in all sorts of pretty green designs. It is a lot like the one I was going to make, but has the advantage of not requiring me to struggle with a sewing machine. Maybe some day I'll make mine, but for now, I'm happy to be able to stick to things I can sew by hand.
Autumn is littering the ground with leaves. I love this season, and for once Olympia is dry enough that the leaves rustle instead of squish. I love the tang of decaying leaves in the air and the wonderful colors. I made a vampire jack-o-lantern and pumpkin-chocolate-chip cookies. I am going to make another wreath, this one with seeds and cones, but I should probably make
poly_good_girl's birthday present first, since that is this coming weekend.
