shoes_the_dog learned multiplication yesterday!
I have always believed in teaching to a kid's strengths more than to their weaknesses. (Mostly, our schools focus on areas you are weak in, instead of incorporating those skills into areas of strength and interest. This often creates boredom, frustration, dis-interest, and low self esteem. So glad I was homeschooled!) He's really, really, really good at math, so we do lots of math for fun. Yesterday we did three pages of multiplication, his first try at it. It is harder than addition and subtraction to grasp, and harder to teach. The first problem took him a good ten minutes to wrestle with. Once he got it his face lit up and he really GOT it. The next three problems (I write them big, and use images to get the idea across) were a snap. The last page was story problems with a picture that he had to pull information from. He breezed through it, laughing and delighted at his new understanding.
I'm so proud.
