Movie review: Dead Man's Chest

Boing!Boing!Boing! Yaaaaay! Perfect! Absolutely perfect! And, oh, the surprise waiting at the end!

And now, I'm just going to cut this here, since I won't be able to refrain from spoliing it for those who have yet to see it. DO NOT CLICK IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE YET!

The biggest surprise of the movie for me was Davy Jones. From the glimpse I'd had in the preview, I thought I'd be horrified. He looked like a creature from a nightmare. I really expected to be repulsed. Instead, he was beautiful! At least, I thought he was. That might tell you just how twisted I am. His skin was so satiny shiny sleek, pearlescent and moving slowly over the bones underneath. You could still see the human form and expressions, and it WAS expressive. And the scene where he was playing the organ: that had to have been a conscious nod to Phantom of the Opera. pwththth and I had just been discussing vampires and immortality, and I'd said that I would not want to be immortal, but when I saw the ship dive under the sea, my first thought was "For that, I'd live one hundred years, and give up any soul I may or may not have." To be always on the sea, to become part of it and it part of you, to sail both over and under the waves...Oh, what a life!

In general, I thought that the second movie had more comedy in it than the first movie, but managed to do so without sacrificing any of the drama. I thought the costumes were better and more creative (I loved it when the man with the shell on his head, who kept loosing his head, pulled his face back into his shell, turned around and stuck out hermit crab legs, and crawled after his body.)

And, and...they finally kissed! Eeeee! Phwew, that was so hot. They'd been taunting us all movie, teasing us with those moments when they were face-to-face, and you knew he wanted to kiss her, and you just knew that some part of her wanted to kiss him. And she did! And it was so...right...what she did. Even he knew that. In that last moment before she left, he forgave her, while also giving a little "I knew you had it in you to be a scoundrel," and thus crowned himself the perfect rougue, in my oppinion.

And when Jack went out with that enigmatic little smile on his face...Perfect! What do you think the compass was pointing to, when it pointed back to the ship? Not the girl, certainly. The Black Pearl itself? Or maybe that rightous, heroic deed that Elizabeth said she was sure he craved?

And Barbosa finally got his apple! I was so sad for him at the end of the first movie, that he didn't get to taste his apple. It would have been okay if he'd died, appropriate even, but he should have been able to bite into his apple first.

And the Voudaun priestess was wonderful! So beautiful, even under all that bizarre makeup. Like a little child, impishly innocent, full of selfish desires and mysterious little games only she understands. I hope we see more of her in the next movie.

P.S. WILL SOMEONE FIND ME A STILL FROM THE MOVIE OF THAT KISS? I CAN'T FIND ONE. :(
