Russ found an article on the differences in speech patterns between "mainstream" populations and sci-fi con-goers. Some interesting observations by a trained speech pathologist, some of which I knew about, others which startle me a bit. Text here. The article is by a friend of the speaker who attended a talk by the researcher. As far as I know, the researcher has not yet published this.
A man in Montreal has come up with a device that injects Hydrogen into a gasoline engine, reducing emissions dramatically and increasing fuel efficiency. Text here. Not on the market yet, and running into some legal difficulties, but interesting. (And for completeness, a Slash-dot discussion that asks many of the same questions I had when I read about this device, and pretty well slams him as a scammer or deluded.)
