a new update

Long Time no type. I've been keeping busy. Just finished up my 2nd year of college. I'm a telemarketer now, which is ironic, because I HATE TELEMARKETERS!! But it's ok, because I'm actually calling for a good cause; to help support disabled veterans and support the soldiers overseas. Though I completely disagree with the stupid war that's going on, the law says they still have to be there, and they still do need support. I'm looking for another job though, because the pay at this one is not what it was described as. I'm not making much money. A few weeks ago I saw The Light in the Piazza with Dana, which was excellent. It was different from any other musical I've seen, and very touching. I plan on seeing Chicago within the next week, so if anyone wants to come, speak now or forever hold your peace. I'm sorely missing Potsdam and am really excited to move into my apartment. Brit is coming down soon, I can't wait for that either. I miss my Pdam friends muchly. Ohh, last week I hung out with Katie and finally met the infamous Charlie, who is an awesome kid, and their friend Jen is is really cool also. I met Katie's brother Peter too, another cool kid. We played Killer Bunnies twice and ate sushi then watched some of the infamous music videos that were made over the course of the semester.

So tonight I was looking up showtimes and ticket prices for Chicago and I stumbled upon a description of the upcoming musical, The Mambo Kings. Do any of you recall the musical that I have been working on for the past year? It's called One Night in Havana and it's about 2 brothers who perform and are very popular in night clubs in Havana and are planning to escape to America (New York to be specific) to hit it big. They decide to take Chico's (one of the brothers) love interest along and the plot thickens as secrets about her past are revealed and they are being hunted down by her overbearing uncle who is a Cuban Official. They are escaping to try and live the "American Dream". The whole thing was inspired by my favorite TV show, I Love Lucy. Now read this:

New York art dealer Arne Glimcher took his first crack at film directing with this florid, high-energy romance about two brothers who flee Cuba in the early 1950s to make it as musicians in the United States. Cynthia Cidre wrote the literate screenplay adapted from Oscar
Hijuelos's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love. Cesar (Armand Assante) and Nestor Castillo (Antonio Banderas) are popular musicians on Havana's club circuit, but when they make enemies of the wrong people, they are forced to leave for New York City, the moody Nestor leaving behind his true love. In New York, the brothers work as meat-cutters during the day as Cesar tries to organize a band and make inroads into the lively New York music scene. Soon, as The Mambo Kings, they get club bookings and Cesar falls in love with a sharp-tongued cigarette girl, Lanna Lake (Cathy Moriarty), and Nestor with the beautiful Delores Fuentes (Maruschka Detmers), who wants to be a teacher. Cesar concentrates on singing and managing the band, while Nestor plays the trumpet and writes emotional songs of love. All seems to be going well until Cesar antagonizes the moneymen on the Latin nightclub circuit and they finds themselves playing bar mitzvahs. But after they're discovered by Desi Arnaz (Desi Arnaz Jr.), the group is prominently featured on I Love Lucy. Their popularity soars and they cut a successful album called "Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love." Cesar is glorying in his success, but Nestor is disappointed and longs to return to Cuba. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

Can you believe this? Ugh! It's depressing to know that a years' work is for nothing!!

But Luckily, last week at work I was struck with a brand new idea. I started a new show, about a guy growing up in a Jewish family. His parents have 3 kids and his mother is obsessed with raising this perfect Jewish family and having all of her kids marrying perfect Jewish people. Of course, things go awry starting from the moment when her eldest son tells her he is gay. I want this to be a memorable comedy. It's a melting pot of many of the movies, TV shows and characters that I love. Th parents remind me a lot of Frank and Marie from Everybody Loves Raymond. There are elements of that show, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, and it's modern counterpart, Guess Who, starring Ashton Kutcher and Bernie Mac. Here's an excerpt, don't go stealing it now, lol.
*the text in caps is meant to be sung

Sylvia:
NOW SCOTTIE,
REMEMBER WHAT MOMMY SAYS.
DON’T TALK IN CLASS,
WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE BATHROOM.
RESPECT YOUR TEACHERS AND YOUR CLASSMATES.
REMEMBER THAT STICKS AND STONES MAY BREAK YOUR BONES,
BUT WORDS WILL NEVER HURT YOU.

Ira: I think he’s got the point, honey.

Sylvia: Shush, Ira.

Ira: Don’t shush me!

Sylvia: Oy, Ira. We’ve been awake for only an hour, and already you’re driving me up the wall!

Ira: Well maybe if you were up a wall, the kid would be able to go into the building!

Sylvia: I have to be careful with this one, Ira. We don’t want him turning out like Rudy. You know…(covers Scottie’s ears) gay. (whispered)

Ira: Why do you think he turned out like he did? Because you’re a NAG, that’s why!

Sylvia: Oh, what does that have to do with it? And anyway, I do NOT nag, I just make firm suggestions.

This script is almost done already; the first draft that is, though I don't think there will more than 2 drafts. I will definetly look into getting this one copyrighted and published and hopefully one day put up, maybe even by MTO.

Well that's all for now, I am actually going to do some more work on the script. TTFN!

Ps. Angeina Jolie is HOOOOOTTT!!!! I'm def. gonna see the Smiths. They make a hot couple. Ok, enough for me. Nite, all.
