UOB is so unlike the other credit card companies....if you call them to say you wish to cancel your card, they wouldn't really dissuade you from doing so. They will ask just once 'why?', and then subsequently proceed with your request and not try to retain you as their customer.
Citibank, on the other hand, will do anything to retain their customers. In all the calls I have made to Citibank, they always agree to waive off any unnecessary charges to my card or any waiver fees imposed. Take the latest incident where I really wanted to cancel one of my cards, as all year long, I had only used once. Thus, when I got the notice for the annual fee, I called to cancel. The CSO repeatedly said she would waive off my interest if I continue to own the card. After at least three attempts to convince me to stay on as their customer, I gave in. No loss right?
