Perchance to Dream
Ted smiles against the warm skin of Ace’s stomach. She’s asleep, naked, still flushed from their love making, in the large bed that Ted placed in the bedroom of their new home together. He loves the way she looks asleep, and the way her arms wrap around him, subconsciously. Or, when he’s like this, how her fingers immediately find his hair and become entangled in it. He smiles again and presses his lips softly against her skin, feeling the faint flutter of her pulse.
He hadn’t meant to fall in love with her. He hadn’t even know what that meant - to fall into love… he thought it entailed tripping into a heart shaped bathtub, or something - until she’d said it to him and he realized that she was right, this was love, and he’d fallen into it.
Ace. Dorothy. McShane. Ace. Love. His perfect match that he didn’t even know he was seeking. She murmurs in her sleep and he moves up her body, slowly, taking in all of the tiny details of the woman he’s become so familiar with. When his mouth reaches her ear he starts to whisper soothing words, and her arms, as expected, wrap around him.
Ted spends most of his time blissfully unaware of reality, and of how it will grind down the people he cares about. But with Ace, he lets his mind open, and the reality with her isn’t bad at all. He kisses her temple and strokes her hair, and his golden wedding band shimmers in the soft light of sunrise creeping through the windows. She’ll wake up soon, and kiss him and tell him to make her breakfast while she showers, but for now he’s content to watch her sleep. He loves watching her sleep.
While Ace sleeps Ted dreams.
