Whinnyhi.
Well, you have convinced me so I am going to take RT to the vet this week and get his rabies shot and dog tag. But first I will either dig up Duke's muzzle or buy one that fits (Duke was a black Dane that wanted to attack all other dogs - I finally had to have the vet put him down because).
I am not very enthusiastic about taking Rocky Top to the vet for many reasons but he seriously DOES need socializing. I wish there was a dog training club or class around here like are COMMON in Alaska but noooo. Has to be one day a week type thing but I cannot be driving to Detroit or suchplace miles away once a week. I will keep searching but, at least, I need to take him to parks and work and places with people and dogs and get him used.
Of course he may only be agressive at home. But I cannot risk him nipping somebody in any event. Unfortunately folks tend to reach down to pet because he is a beautiful dog. That equals a bite to the hand, possibly, a risk I will not take. I need to get him out and make a HUGE deal about him growling or barking with threatening posture toward anybody. NO! BAD DOG!
He is a great dog but he is a German Shepherd and the pick of the litter for outgoingness and fearlessness and yet he wants to please very bad so is pretty easy to train, actually.
I thought it kinda funny that the license fee is only $5 for a neutered/spayed as opposed to $25 for an entire. I understand the government is trying to pressure people into doing that but RT is a registered GSD with very good bloodlines and OFA certified hips for three generations (rare and valuable as a breeding animal) and yet, I have to soulsearch that. Do I ever plan on studding him? Probably not. So the dilemma again and yet, he will never be allowed to mate with another dog unless it is a made decision so the world is safe from unwanted puppies if he remains entire or is neutered either way. Of course the moment I have him de-balled I can no longer show him, something I have been considering doing.
Why can't this be easy? Grin.
Thanks, friends, you have me convinced even though there is no convincing Bear. Thankfully he DID get Soma spayed so there is hope there, too.
