Personality:
Beatrice was raised as a noble woman, but because of this she feels as if she isn’t understood and that those around her don’t care about her, but rather her status. She grew to crave mutual understanding with another human being more than anything and eventually found it in Kinzo as she easily sympathized with his similar situation.
Despite her feelings of being somewhat detached from those around her, she is fun-loving and active, avoiding showing others those feelings; not because she wants to dwell on it alone, but because she would rather forget about it and enjoy herself and her tough attitude won’t allow her to do so. She tries to be stronger than she is, really, though she certainly is strong both physically and mentally, she would hate to be seen as weak out of a sense of pride as well as her not wanting others to look down on or worry about her wellbeing. Beatrice is a tomboy and takes pride in being an Italian woman, who she claims are naturally tough and strong-willed. It can also be assumed she has a strong sense of national pride and desire to help her country as her father was a high-ranking officer in the Italian rebellion nearing the end of WWII and was with him on the submarine transporting tonnes of gold with which she was willing to hide in an underground bunker for years. This could also point towards her being somewhat selfless, Beatrice was a young woman but she was willing to be kept there no matter how long it had to last. However, though she may take pride in her nation, it’s clear from her reaction to the outbreak of fighting on Rokkenjima that she won’t tolerate what she doesn’t agree with - even if it’s ‘for the good of her country’, or anything/one else. If she thinks it’s wrong, she won’t go along with it.
She seems to make friends easily in both men and women due to her friendly, playful and tomboyish nature. Beatrice will gladly chat and form a friendship with anyone who is willing, but is by no means naïve and won’t easily be fooled by someone who is insincere. …and if that person were to attack her (be it physically or through blackmail and the like), she could hold her own quite well. She will also look out for those she cares for, even if it may be detrimental to herself.
Beatrice is clearly quite intelligent, she speaks English fluently, though no one else on the sub with her could speak any, it’s possible she may speak a third language as well, even. Because of this, she loves to read old books in both English and Italian, another bonding point for her and Kinzo.
She also has a high capacity for empathy, made evident by her ability to understand Kinzo easily and be sympathetic towards him; she was even able to understand where the Japanese soldiers were coming from despite she and her companions being attacked. Though one would think she might not understand concepts such as the nature of greed, how it affects people and that it is only natural, due to her upbringing where she would not have been exposed to ‘the world’, living in WWII-era Italy, being well-read and intelligent, she has been exposed to much more than it may seem and certainly does have a deep understanding.
Because of her empathetic and understanding side, if someone were to come to her with a problem, she would do everything she could do help them.
It may be because of her noble upbringing, but for whatever reason, she will horribly burn even the simplest of dishes - and this will frustrate her greatly. She is far from being a witch of the kitchen or home.

I know Japan is very different from Italy, but it can’t be this different, can it? So, then, I must not be in Japan, even…so where? What is this thing, anyway? I wonder if it’s password-locked, didn’t father say something like - ah, there! Oh, was it on all along? [She sighs] How embarrassing…
Hello, anyone, do you speak English? I hope so. This is all very strange, but I want to make the best of it at least! Please don’t be afraid to say “hello”, oh, that’s right, why not call me “Bice” while you’re at it! [She flashes a bright smile]
…by the way, does anyone know a man named Kinzo?
Third Person Sample:
Beatrice sat at the edge of a body of water, she had been there for quite a while; was it an ocean or a lake? She wasn’t sure as of yet, but then again, ‘ocean or lake’ was far from being an important question at that moment. Instead, she had set her boots aside, rolled up her pants and stuck her feet in the water, leaning back on one hand to leave the other free to pet her strange companion - something else she was unsure how to classify other than ‘big, blue and strangely cute’.
“If you’re going to follow me around no matter what, I wish I knew if you had a name… Maybe that’s silly, you’re no one’s pet, except maybe mine. In which case, I guess it’s up to me to name you? A name is important, everyone needs a name, but not just for the convenience of others…” She sighed, kicking her feet to watch the water move. “But because it’s important, I’m going to wait. It has to be a good one!”
A proper name…? Come to think of it, this creature was like some sort of sea monster, Bice could easily sit on its back, shell, rather, maybe it would let her ride across to the other side of the ocean-lake? Ah, but wait, she thought, it’s the same, this creature is just like the submarine, then. It’s another long journey across an ocean, then is it? That’s right, the journey that brought her ultimately to Kinzo… Kinzo, Kinzo, Kinzo, Kinzo! She had promised herself she would try not to think about him, it would be upsetting and just distract her from figuring out what exactly she needed to do! There would be time for that later, she was in a strange place and needed to give her full attention to coming up with some sort of plan! On the other hand, it could give her a clear goal. That’s it. I’ll just have to find a way to get back ‘home’, so I can see him! It will be “The Adventure of the Golden Witch to Return to her Love”! -Was that a bad title? It didn’t matter anyway, she would have plenty of time while on “The Adventure” to come up with a good story title to amaze him with.
As she stood and hurried to put her shoes back on, Beatrice glanced over at her new friend, smiling.
“You’re coming too, right? I do hope you’ll be alright outside the water.”
