I once made a very elaborate mother's day card covered in pictures of famous fictional mothers.
Padme, though deeply flawed, is a fascinating mother, one that allows herself to be killed by her husband and to sacrifice her values for him. Piper, from Charmed, also is quite interesting as the super-hero-mom that has to reject male-chauvinism and accept her son as her heir. Claire, from Lost, who has to raise the son she was going to give up, also interesting. Lily, the stereotypical martyred mother from Harry Potter is worth a mention.
But, come on, no contest. Best mother of all geekdom: Xena. One kid born when she was evil and pops up back in her life, only to be murdered by the daughter of her best friend. Other kid the reincarnation/fathered by her arch enemy, goes evil (like both her mother and "father"). Despite all the evil that kid would do, she refuses to kill her own daughter. Having to face her own inner demons and evil past, as well as her own heroic journey and ultimate need to do good. Being a mother was just exactly where this super-heroine, this ultra-feminine character had to go.
