we got an apartment! it's 99% ours as we haven't signed the lease yet. we will tomorrow. and because the landlord seemed 100% non-crazy, i think this one's in the bag, people! so long as, say, the landlord wasn't a figment of our imaginations, he refuses any other currency besides spacebucks, etc.
my new apartment. let me tell you about it. my new apartment (when will the LOLz catz lexicon leave my brain? WHEN?):
-in lincoln square just west of western
-in a two-flat brick house, high 1st floor
-living room, dining room AND eat-in kitchen
-painted ecclectically, read: the living room is lime green
-has hardwood floors and that general vintage look, but hasn't been kept up the best which is fine because if it was it would be several hundred more per month
-i think a good solid cleaning will do it good
-has a small backyard patio area with lawn furniture and two barbeques
-i bet the landlord would be cool with me doing a little gardening in the backyard
this was the first of three places that we saw last night. the second was in a beautiful yellow brick vintage building, and the apartment itself was immaculately cared for, except for one thing. the kitchen was decorated with three different patterns of wallpaper: fake bricks, chili peppers, and pots and pans. i'm glad i bit my tongue and didn't say anything about it, because the dude showing the place later told evan that his mom did all of the decorating. she did a fabulous job on the rest of the place, though! muted green paint in the living room, nice neutral beige in the bedroom, vintage emerald green tiles in the bathroom, beautifully gaudy chandelier in the dining room. what the hell happened with the kitchen, lady? if we hadn't seen the first place, we would've taken this one and i would've had to have lived with the chili peppers.
the third place we saw had a dream location, right on montrose across from wells park. but of course there's always a reason for unusually low rent. i thought it was gonna be a dump, but it turns out it was an attic appartment that was only half dump. it's never a good sign when the stove is just thrown willy nilly against a random wall in the kitchen. the master bedroom's roof was so slanted i'm not sure if getting in and out of bed would've been easy. and the place smelled of leaked gas.
moving into a new place is always exciting for me because i love to decorate. i never made an effort with our current apartment because i was angry and pregnant when we moved in, and i knew it would only be a temporary home. we don't even have enough furniture to fill up the new place. shopping time! i bet the dude will let us repaint the walls if we so choose. i'm happy with the yellow paint in the kitchen. all kitchen's should be yellow! but lil guy's room should be repainted as it is lilac. and i'm just not free-thinking enough to think that lilac is an appropriate color for a boy's room.
now that the apartment search is over i kinda don't know what to do with myself. it was taking up such a chunk of my day to constantly refresh craigslist and make what seemed like a hundred calls.
