I picked up a ring for my wife the other day from a travelling salesman...it was a little more than I bargained for, I must admit ( Read more... )

Useful, nonetheless.

Lena Cosimo has begun to be affected by Belief also. Apparently, she grows tempted to drown people...attempted to murder someone recently.

A great deal of concerns have been brought to me recently, all to do with Belief, and Godric's use of it. Even from those outside of the Hour. People appear to be calling more and more for him to face some kind of punishment. I fear that their ire turns on the entire Hour, rather than simply him. No, I do not fear; I know. He must be stopped urgently. We may have to turn to drastic actions.

Our most reasonable option, I suppose, is to actually go to Godric and tell him to turn it down. Point out that none of us support it. Try to convince him to give into our demands. However, I cannot see him relenting easily, if he does at all.

I have a plan, should we need it...though it is an extreme course of action.

Lock Godric away for a while, away from his ledger, anyone he might contact. Tell the world he has work to do, but that he has turned Belief down. Use Belief against itself by having people Believe it to be lowered and keep him from causing more trouble.

I suppose our last option is to go to the Guard, but given the incident with Cancellarius Tansel atop the recent medical scandal...we may find ourselves embroiled in serious problems if we do. Word getting out that we allow our Others to run loose in the streets when they are at their most dangerous, that we allow them to commit such grave injustices as what happened...adding that to Godric apparently running around granting people's wildest wishes and Belief creating incidents such as Miss Cosimo's attempted murder...I worry the Hour will find it difficult to recover.

That's our least reasonable option. We've voiced concerns already. He won't listen at all. And, given that we are talking about separating Godric Vance from his life's work, I wouldn't be surprised if he turned Belief on us at the suggestion.

That's clever, if not logically sound. And if it doesn't work, we've still got the Magus locked away where he can't cause any more damage. We'll have to alert the guard once we've dealt with Vance, of course. But I agree, the further from the public eye we keep this, the better. I imagine more people than we suspect already know about our long string of recent fiascos. You hear talk everyday about the Hour crumbling to bits and the Citadel falling to pieces. We've both done just that.

We have to try.

I'm ready to go through with it when you are.

What about Ezra? He's always at Vance's elbow. Do you think he'd help or hinder us?

Help, if we convinced him. He too, has been made increasingly nervous of Vance's decisions.

You speak with him. I'll take care of the rest.

[pause]

I'm going to tell you something and I'd take it as a mark of our friendship if you didn't ask any questions. I have reason to believe someone very close to me was affected by the Magus' experiment. If I do anything drastic, in regards to my [pause] you-know-whatness, I want you to call the guards.
