Yes, questioning his children works. I'd question the entire family separately to see what they can tell you. Watch and see if it looks like they're corroborating on a story or not. Personal servants or bodyguards, too, if you feel like you don't have enough.

There isn't much reason for Vidar to lie, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility that he could be out to give Lennox and his family a hard time if they didn't have the best relationship.
