Re: Allen - St. Mungo's

She saw him out of the corner of her eye; green robes, white hair. Moirine flinched and turned her head against the pillow, affecting not to have seen him. She heard fast approaching footsteps, saw Mari - standing at her bedside - begin to bite her lip to keep from grinning, and kept herself tense until she heard, "Moirine."

Shocked. Scandalized, maybe. Disappointed? She rolled her head back against the pillow to look at him. Allen's robes were the same vivid green as the rest of the staff's, but much more complimentary, she felt, on him. His eyes looked brighter than ever, even if they were now narrowed, roving over her. "Hi," she said in a small voice. Mari started to quiver with the effort of not laughing.

Allen opened his mouth, shut it, took a deep breath, and then said, exasperated, "You're pink." This proved to be too much; Mari's laugh echoed across the ward and earned a number of dark looks from nurses and patients at other beds. The girl pressed the back of her hand to her mouth and ( ... )

Re: Ermesinda - Animagus

In seven days Ermesinda was going to become an Animagus.

On Monday she was convinced, scowling her way through Charms, that the spell would be as unruly as the mending charm she was trying to master. It would make her into something embarrassing. A fish, she thought darkly. A useless, flopping little fish.

On Tuesday, while she lay in bed in her dormitory, Ermesinda was certain she would be a cat. She had all the right qualities. She was clever, admittedly quick to judge, and her moods were mercurial. Yes, she would certainly be a cat. But then... Silas was a dog. Would he still like her if she was a cat?

On Wednesday she was very sour from having not slept well; she'd tossed and turned, worried that her only friend might soon hate her. She wouldn't be a cat, she decided. Perhaps the spell could be influenced. If she thought very hard, not a cat, it would certainly listen. She could be a... a fox. Oh. No, hounds hunted those as well ( ... )

Re: Cristofolo - Transfiguration Classes

They were turning books into mice. The librarian had, after hours of cajoling and begging and finally bullying, agreed to give them each two books on which to practice. They were all outdated textbooks, things that the library wouldn't miss and in fact had a surplus of, but Isley's eyes had still filled with tears when she'd parted with them.

Cristofolo had been given a crumbling edition of Hogwarts: A History and another, dustier tome so large that he'd had to carry it to his desk with both hands. Professor Jones walked among them, complimenting or correcting where necessary, and Cristofolo did his best to ignore him. The Professor, three weeks earlier, had been delighted rather than scandalized to learn that the Sabreme boy suffered from lycanthropy; he'd been convinced that, undergoing a self transformation once a month as he did, Cristofolo would excel at transfiguration. In this he'd been proven only partially correct. At anything to do with animals, he did excel... but not quite ( ... )

Allen & Moirine - Crashing the Common Room

Allen stumbled as he was dragged into the common room, Paranov holding him by one arm and Reid the other. The Slytherin common room was far different from his own, but Allen barely noticed the furnishings. His attention was concentrated on trying not to flinch at all the hostile looks directed at him, at the sight of his sister lifting her head from her book to stare at him. "Look who we found loitering out in the hall! Burrell," Paranov called to Moirine, giggling, "Somebody wants some kisses." A number of students burst into laughter; Allen's face reddened.

"Shut up!" Moirine snapped, and she shut her book so hard dust rose from the pages. She marched over to the three of them and took Allen's arm from Reid. The girl giggled, only slightly higher-pitched than Ira.

"She wants him all to herself, she does. Is that how they keep blood pure in your family?"

"That's a filthy rumour--" Allen started angrily, but Paranov cut him off.

"Oh, it's not that what's really disappointing ( ... )
