Introducing: Silence, otherwise known as Amberlin Jai. Application / Profile here
General Rumours & Beliefs:
* Silence killed the Bercator family
* Silence is a Bercator bastard / a Bercator agent
* Silence is an agent of the Royal Family
* Silence is actually an Other and can hear you every time his name is spoken
* Silence is a man (this is more Belief than rumour)
* Silence is coming to get you.
Connections & Potential Relationships:
Silence is like an onion. Like an ogre, s/he has layers.
Although Silence is known for managing a Gang of Whispers, this has gradually dwindled over the years to become secondary to his real occupation. He is more successfully known as a high-rate assassin or informant for hire. If you aren't nobility or in the higher bracket of salaries, you probably can't afford him.
You may have connections with Silence if:
* you have hired him
* he is reputed to have Silenced someone in your family or circle
* you are law enforcement and it would really make your day to catch him (or you're corrupt and you deal in information with him)
* you are in his gang - basic thugs, cutthroats, thieves, and spies.
* you owe protection money to his gang - although it is unlikely you will deal with Silence himself on this level, you will deal with lackies.
* you are one of his 'noses' i.e. you collect information and feed it back to him. he pays well.
* you are a member of another gang and therefore a rival / enemy / competitor.
Underneath Silence lies Jai, a scrawny, scruffy man who as a boy was apprenticed to be a burglar. Part of a debt-collection, he was then apprenticed to the Ghost himself, who prior to Silence was the main assassin for hire in the city. It was heavily rumoured that Ghost and Jai were also lovers for six or seven years. Jai handled Gang matters whilst Ghost was abroad. Jai and Silence are rarely connected as the same person.
You may have connections with Jai if:
* you knew Jai when he was apprenticed to Madon 11-12 years ago.
* you were an informant back in the day. Jai was a 'nose' or a spy for Ghost, which ultimately meant nobility.
* you are an informant now - some people may talk to Jai where they won't talk to Silence, etc.
* Jai sold out some of your secrets, anytime over the last 12 years.
* You are a long-serving member of the Whispers who knows Jai by name instead of title. If you are in this bracket, you may suspect Jai is not the gender he claims. Be careful with this.
* You are one of Jai's 'pals on the street' or 'acquaintances'.
* you are a member of another gang and therefore a rival / enemy / competitor.
Underneath Jai lies Amberlin, or Amber. Very few people know or remember Amber, and she is at great pains to keep it that way. Amber was born to a whore in a brothel and lived there until she was fourteen.
You may have connections with Amber if:
* you were a whore that long ago, or you were the child of another whore in the same brothel
* you were the madame/pimp of the brothel in question
* you suspect that you are Amberlin's father / sibling
* you are one of the two brothers who were given away
