Snowy Portrait
Originally uploaded by goldenhawkw. Snowy died yesterday. She was suffering from end stage renal failure. Retaining urine, refusing to drink and eat, hind leg weakness, all meant the end was coming soon. I had a good cuddle off her yesterday before we took her to the vets to be put to sleep. She sat on my lap and purred like an engine. Despite her putting on a brave face, you could tell she wasn't herself. At the vets she continued to purr and gave the vet's hand a good rubbing. I made the decision to have her put down as Jeff didn't want to make it. I feel bad about it, but clinically it was the right decision. She would not have lasted much longer. I got to stroke her head as she drifted off and tell her it would be ok. She stuck her tongue out at us as she fell asleep and was very cute. We continued to stroke her and talk to her after her heart stopped and brain died. Clinically it was interesting as I have never seen an animal being put down before, but emotionally it was quite upsetting. Teresa and Jeff are allowing me to have her tag. We'll be burying her collar with Garfields.
