These are the lenses my neighbor let me borrow when I did Gabby's beach shoot:

I bought the Canon 50mm lens for now as it's the least expensive and I wanted at least something new to try. I'm not comfortable enough with knowing my camera and how it works to justify the big daddy (meaning $$$) lenses. The 50mm does not have a zoom... it is more for portraits. I haven't played around with it that much yet, but it is fun to try...
