I was a turtle transporter, today.
I like turtles. I think they're cute (they're very ugly, but it's in a cute way). And I see lots of road kill when I'm biking, but turtles are always the saddest, in my opinion. Because other animals were just stupid and dashed out in front of a car like fuzzy morons, but turtles start to cross the road in perfect safety with no vehicles in sight and simply can't move fast enough to the next car to eventually come along.
I did NOT want to touch that turtles. Reptiles give me the creepies. Also, I wasn't sure if their shell was hard on the bottom or if the tummy area was soft, so I extra didn't want to pick that turtle up if anything I would touch might be squishy or leathery (it wasn't, btw...all hard like rock). But I really didn't want it to get smucked, so I left my bike at the side of the road and went over and picked him up by the sides of his shell and took him to the other side of the road (the way he was headed on his own) and stuck him in the grass just beyond the gravel shoulder. Poor thing was probably horrified...he sucked all his bits into his shell as soon as I got near him.
Well, hopefully he didn't have a heart attack and once I was far away again, popped his bits back out and got back on his way.
I never want to touch a turtle again, though. Even though the feel wasn't actually gross at all. I didn't want him to get splatted, but I'm still *not* an animal lover. I don't even like dogs or cats, let alone reptilian squirmers. I might like to have a pendant of a turtle, but I can do without the *real* turtles.
I need a nap. Shocked? :D
