saw: Thick as Blood, Death Before Dishonor, Between the Buried and Me, Baroness, Cro-Mags, Earth Crisis, Death Threat, C.O.A., Periphery, Rose Funeral, Doomriders, Fall of Troy, After the Burial, Mongoloids, Gaza, xTyrantx, Reign Supreme, Soul Control, Cruel Hand, Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, Disembodied, Skeletonwitch, Abacabb, Malefice, Swashbuckle, Municipal Waste. I probably saw bits and pieces of a few other bands, but i can't remember which.
All of the black metal bands had to cancel due to the volcano in Iceland shutting down all the airports in Europe. I was so close to seeing 1349. fuck all. one day, 1349, one day. The only european band to make it was, i believe Malefice. They were pretty awesome. Pretty straight forward metalcore, but with fun british accents in between songs. yay.
Death Before Dishonor was probably the best act of Friday. What's that? I'm not cumming in my pants over Between the Buried & Me's set? Sadly, no. Four songs off their new lackluster album, one song off Colors, and not even close to the best one, and one off of Alaska. Mordecai was the song i wanted to hear that i got to hear. it's always such a bummer to be underwhelmed by bands i have high expectations for.
"We're C.O.A. from Brockton, Fuck You." good quote from those guys. Not bad, not great.
Earth Crisis tore it up, though his story about Walter Whoeverthefuck, the "Vegan Straightedge Warrior" out in Oklahoma kind of hurt my brain. It was something like, so this vegan straightedge warrior is watching his brother ruin his life on crystal meth. he goes to the dealer and tells him to stop selling meth to his brother, to which the dealer replies, in a soundly logical way, "what's the difference if i sell it to him or if somebody else sells it to him?" to which walter, the vegan straightedge warrior replies, "because you're you but my brother's mine." the dealer does not stop selling meth to walter VSxEW, and so walter burns the guy's lab down. the crowd applauds, but i'm in the back thinking...hey, wait a second- that's dumb. Meth labs explode (why this is a bad story No. 1). No. 2, it doesn't matter if you burned down a meth lab- you burned down a building. that's arson. no. 3 Hey, Walter, you could have just told the cops what was going on there and the building would have been torn down by the state, and you don't have to go to prison for arson. Fuck you, Walter.
Death Threat, Mongoloids, Soul Control, Cro Mags, and Thick as Blood. Crushing hardcore and totally fucking awesome. Their rhetoric is so fun, especially from Reign Supreme. The whole "Fuck Metal, Fuck Hardcore, Fuck Everybody else, just be yourself. Destroy all obstacles in your way. Bow to no one. Ubermensch, Ubermensch, ra ra ra." it's only because you're yelling it at me that i have to seriously wonder, is somebody fucking with you that much, or are you just being confrontational? Eh.
xTryrantx did their schtick with the football at the end of their set, again. Whoever is holding the football at the end of the song gets a free t-shirt and a cd, but during the song- beat the shit out of whoever is holding the football. A lot of big fat dudes rolling around on the floor. a moderately amusing display. Almost as amusing as the band having two singers, one with a crazy amount of facial tattoos.
Periphery really needed their monitors turned up because i don't think the singer could hear himself. he was missing notes all willy-nilly over the place. eegads. I'm willing to bet their cd is awesome, though. I would check it out- and probably will.
Baroness, After the Burial, and Rose Funeral can suck it. Baroness...ok, they're actually really good, but i was just so wholly not in the mood for space-out metal and drone. i was chomping at the bit for them waiting waiting waiting for BTBAM. then that made me sad, too. Woe! After the Burial i might have liked about 6 years ago. Today i say no. Rose Funeral- c'mon guys. three breakdowns in almost every song and every song is like 3 minutes? yo....no.
ABACABB, Skeletonwitch- yeah you guys fucking rock. i wouldn't seek you out individually, though.
TDTE, and Disembodied surprised me! I was not so thrilled with either of their latest releases, but they really tore it up. Cudos, gentlemen.
Fall of Troy: i don't really like them, but i think i could later. They are extremely talented, and their energy is phenomenal (so was Soul Control's despite them playing to a room of 20 people. i applaud that). These guys are filed in the back of my head along with Periphery.
Doomriders were awesome. Good Cambridge local metal. Nice heavy bass riffs, and sludgey metal.
Swashbuckle- most surprising and fun act of the whole festival. Dudes in pirate outfits playing legitimately brutal metal--about oysters and fucking women and walking planks. the fatter lead singer was equipped with the parrot on the shoulder and everything. them i would absolutely see again. then for the rest of the day, the big guy was in every pit. he walked by me shouting "Ridah Ridah Ridah Ridah!" which i took to be a Chowder reference, making him immediately my best friend i've never met.
Municipal Waste: It's fucking Municipal Waste. I moshed like a motherfucker.
and the band i went to see out of the whole fest: Gaza. Gaza is still my <3 they just own the stage. i blew my voice out singing along. Some guys in the audience were yelling for them to play slutmaker, to which Jon retorted, they weren't going to play that song anymore because too many bros with flat-brimmed hats made it a name for their girlfriends, and he found it despicable. done and done. i love their conviction and their dislike of trends and scenes. Keep on keeping on, Gaza. kisses.

as for seeing the CP crew again, it's always an incredible pleasure. I love those guys. I really do.
And I don't know what kind of fucked up cosmic forces are at play lately, but if you remember from my last entry, i wrote about that kid puking next to me on the T. My motherfucking luck, some fat bitch comes running out of the mosh pit and literally stops in front my me to vomit into her hand. the shit sprays all over my arms and i have a little sticky chunk of something stuck to my pants. Zac Attack is standing next to me and is just like, "Did that get on you?" "Yeah. FUCK." I hold my arms up and try to walk out of the crowd without touching anybody. as i go downstairs to the bathroom, Allie and Trejo are standing outside it. "What's up dude?" "I just got fucking puked on." Seriously. Puked on twice in three days? *middle finger to God*
